Common database management procedures

The following sections outline common procedures that you can perform using the manual tasks. For more details on individual manual tasks, see "Manual Tasks" on page 1.

Detaching then re-attaching databases

The following procedure explains how to detach a connected database and then re-attach a new database in its place.

Detaching and re-attaching a database

Stop all services that are running.

Right-click Databases then select Detach. The Detach Database dialog opens.

Select the database you want to detach. Click Clear to ensure there are no connections to the database. Under Detach options, select whether or not you want to update statistics prior to detach. Click OK.

Right-click Databases then select Attach. The Attach Database dialog opens.

Click the browse button and navigate to the database you want to attach. Edit the Attach as field or leave the default name. Click OK.

Restart the services.

Attaching a database using

If you attach a database to the system via , you must keep all services running. This differs from the Detach/Attach procedure described in "Detaching then Re-attaching Databases", above.

Right-click Databases then select Attach. The Attach Database dialog opens.

Click the browse button and navigate to the database you want to attach. Update the name in the Attach as field or use the default name.

Click OK.

Restoring an ION database from a backup

To recover a database after a full backup, replace the lost or corrupted database with the backup database file.

Restoring a database using

Stop all ION Enterprise services.

Right-click Databases then select Restore. The Restore Database dialog opens.

Under Select the backup to restore, select the appropriate database to restore from the list. To see the properties of the selected database, click Properties.

Click Clear to ensure there are no connections to the database.

Edit the database name in the Restored database name field or select from the dropdown list.

Click the browse button beside the Database file location field and navigate to the location where you want to store the restored database.

Restart the services.

Note

There are blank database and transaction log backup files available in the event of an entire database loss or corruption. They are located in the ...\\system\etc\ directory. The task in called New ION Database uses these files.
